The purpose of this page is to show a glimpse of my design process and how the creation happens.
I start with a conversation, which includes notes and doodles scratched onto paper. I always have to have a paper sketch to start because that's when I'm most free to draw however way I want. It allows for me to explore what is possible in the given space and medium.
This collection below is a series of sketches to final products. The first set is from a project at the Democracy Collaborative visualizing a food system model that was previously only explained in text and in action. I started with building the elements I would need, then organizing it in a way that tells a narrative. The proofing of the data was done by my colleagues. All graphics were created by myself from start to finish. My artboard is where I'm better able to gauge what can be done, and experiment with different layouts, graphic elements, and styles.
The second series is also a project from the Democracy Collaborative; one of my first infographics for them. It started with combining two reports from the National Credit Union Administration and the University of Wisconsin Center for Cooperatives, then comparing it against available data on corporate bank assets. Research was done by myself and my colleagues, and the graphics were created by myself including the re-creation of the institution logos.
Lastly, this series is a project from an online typography class I took at Parsons. This was my favorite piece that came out of it, but most importantly, I learned the essence of keeping sketches, receiving feedback from peers, and structuring my process. This project required us to use only typography with the exception of one shape, while using only one color outside of black and white. With a more formal setting and process, everything pieced together simply and easily from sketch to final product, with the small addition of adding the Eiffel Tower with film information.
